Langkawi is not a single dining neighbourhood — it is five coasts, a ferry town, and a strip of resorts tucked into rainforest. What you eat depends on where you are staying and whether the sun is up.
Pantai Cenang — the default
The island’s main beach strip has the density: The Cliff for sunset views, Orkid Ria for live seafood, Smiling Buffalo for brunch under the trees. If you are only here three nights, two of your dinners probably happen here.
Kuah — town food and night markets
Kuah is where locals shop and eat on weeknights. The Langkawi Night Market rotates through different spots — grilled seafood, satay, apam balik, and the kind of prices that remind you this is still a Malaysian island. Check which night it lands near you before you drive over.
Pantai Tengah — quieter coast
Less foot traffic than Cenang, same sea. Good for travellers who want beach proximity without the strip’s volume. Pair dinner with a morning kayak — Dev’s Adventure Tours runs mangrove trips from this side of the island.
Padang Matsirat — before or after the cable car
Oriental Village and the SkyCab draw day-trippers; eat before you ride or plan a late lunch on the way back. The listings here skew toward attractions and casual meals near the airport corridor.
Teluk Datai — resort bays
The north shore is resort country — fewer standalone restaurants in the directory, but worth browsing if you are staying upcountry and want editor-vetted options away from the beach strip.
Practical notes
Timing: Sunset restaurants book up fast December–March. Night markets start around 7pm. Transport: Grab works; parking on Cenang fills on weekends. Seafood: Always confirm weight and price before the kitchen cooks.
