The experience
Pak Long started as a night-market satay stall in 1991. The cafe in Kampung Gelam opened in 2017, and this is still the meal people cross the island for: charcoal-grilled satay and a thick peanut sauce, eaten at a table rather than standing in a queue.
There is more than satay if you are hungry. The house also does local fried dishes and a few western plates, including grilled chops. The room gets going in the evening, which is when the grill makes sense.
The cafe is open from 5.30pm to midnight, and closed on Tuesday. Find it at No. 85, Kampung Gelam, in Mukim Kedawang. If you want satay to take home, they also sell it frozen.
