A highway stop in Ulu Melaka with a shop and a restaurant side by side.
Gua MAHA sits on the Langkawi Highway at Bukit Buluh Penyumpit, in Ulu Melaka. The stop is really two things. One is a bird’s-nest shop, processing and selling edible bird’s nest and drinks made with it. The other is GM Farm Seafood, the restaurant built next to the trees.
The restaurant cooks Malaysian-Chinese seafood: porridge, steamboat, fried rice, and the crab and prawn plates you order when everyone is hungry. It is a sit-down meal after a drive, not a resort dinner, and the forest edge is part of why it feels different from Kuah.
The shop is open every day from 10.30am to 7.30pm. The restaurant runs from 11.30am to 9pm and closes on Wednesday. If you only want the meal, do not come on Wednesday. If you want the nest shop as well, the morning is the easy overlap.
